The City of Fremont is leading the project management and construction efforts for the Washington Boulevard/ Paseo Padre Parkway Grade Separation Project. This regional transportation project will separate car and pedestrian traffic from railroad crossings by building an:

• Overpass on Washington Boulevard between Bruce Drive and Roberts Avenue. 
• Underpass on Paseo Padre Parkway between Shadowbrooke Common Road and Hancock Drive.

• Relocate about 1.5 miles of the active Union Pacific railroad tracks up to 500 feet to the east of where they are now in the area between Paseo Padre Parkway and Washington Boulevard.
• Allow the BART extension to Warm Springs to proceed at grade within current abandoned railroad right of way.

Construction

Construction began in spring 2007 and will end in 2010. Once constructed, the new overpass and underpass will improve safety, reduce traffic congestion, and help facilitate the BART extensions to Warm Springs and then to Silicon Valley.
