PLANNING DIVISION OVERVIEW

The Planning Division, within the Community Development Department, is responsible for:

assisting City Council with planning for Fremont's future development
reviewing proposed development projects for conformance with the City's adopted policies and ordinances
maintaining and implementing the City's General Plan
providing information to the public about planning, zoning, planning permits, and landscape architecture requirements
managing the Planning Commission, Zoning Administration Hearings, and Historical Architectural Review Board

PLANNING ENTITLEMENTS & PERMITS

The City's process for Planning Entitlements and Planning Permits ensures that the proposed land use and/or project follows development guidelines and is designed and operated in a way that is compatible with surrounding uses and the community.

Planning and Building Permits and Engineering Permits allow the City to verify that construction and development activity in Fremont conforms to adopted codes, regulations, and other requirements to ensure all homes, buildings, and structures are safe. This is accomplished by examining project plans and conducting building inspections to verify compliance with the current California Building Code and local regulations. Every permit requires a building inspection.
