The City of Fremont is constantly re-imagining its role as a city and the ways it can meet the needs of the people that choose to live, work, and play within its borders. From sustainability initiatives and public safety policies to high-tech pilot programs and community engagement efforts, Fremont is a regional and national leader that has garnered recognition and awards throughout the years:


2021


  • Fremont Ranked 6th Greenest City in America – Fremont is ranked No. 6 overall in WalletHub’s list of the greenest cities in the country. The data they used set ranges from greenhouse-gas emissions per capita to number of smart-energy policies and initiatives to green job opportunities.

  • Fremont selected as a 2021 Beacon Vanguard Platinum Award winner by the Institute for Local Government (ILG). In addition to the Vanguard Award, the City was selected as a 2021 Beacon Leadership and Innovation Award winner for using innovation to promote clean energy in Fremont.

  • Fremont Vision Zero Program received the “Project of the Year” award from the Western ITE District and the “Transportation Safety Achievement” award from the national ITE organization. 

  • Fremont Named 11th Most Ambitious City in the U.S. – Verizon ranked the City of Fremont as the No. 11 most ambitious city in the nation according to a recent study.

  • Fremont Named one of America’s Least Stressed City – A recent report by WalletHub has ranked Fremont as one of America’s least stressed city.

  • Fremont Ranks 2nd Best City to Raise a Family – The City of Fremont ranked No. 2 as best place to raise a family in the country according to a recent study conducted by Wallet Hub. 

  • Fremont Ranked No. 1 as the Happiest City in the U.S. – The City of Fremont ranked No. 1 as the happiest city in the nation according to a recent study conducted by Wallet Hub. 

  • Fremont Named 10th Best City to Work From Home – In an annual report by SmartAsset on the best U.S. cities to work from home, Fremont was listed as No. 10.

  • Fremont Ranked 14th Healthiest City in America – Fremont was named the 14th most healthy city in the U.S. in a recent study by Wallet Hub.

2020


  • Annual recipient of the Vision Zero for Youth USA Leadership Award – The National Center for Safe Routes to School awarded Fremont this honor based on the City's work to protect child and youth pedestrians and significantly reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries for road users of all ages. 
      
  • Fremont Ranked Most Caring City in California and 4th Most Caring City in Nation – The City of Fremont was ranked as the most caring city in California and 4th most caring city in America by WalletHub.

  • Fremont Ranked No. 1 as the Happiest City in the U.S. – Fremont was named 2020's Happiest City in America in a recent study conducted by Wallet Hub.

  • Fremont has once again been recognized as a Tree City USA Community, making it 24 straight years in a row! This distinction is awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation to cities that place a high importance on caring for the trees in their community.

2019

 
  • Fremont Named a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. League of American Bicyclists recognized Fremont with a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community award, joining 475 communities across the country in building better places for people to bike. Fremont joins a team of communities that are transforming the American landscape and leading on livability measurements important to community members.
  • Fremont Ranked 2nd Best Place to Raise a Family – The City of Fremont ranked No. 2 as best place to raise a family in the country according to a study conducted by WalletHub.

  • Fremont recognized as a global leader on environmental action and transparency, achieving a place on CDP’s Cities A List for 2019.

2018

 
  • Grantmakers In Aging 2018 Diversity Award – City of Fremont Human Services Department received the Grantmakers In Aging (GIA) Diversity Award for the Community Ambassador Program for Seniors (CAPS). A unique civic partnership between the Human Services Department and 10 local cultural, faith, and neighborhood organizations, CAPS originated from a Robert Wood Johnson “Fresh Ideas” grant in 2007.

  • 7th Greenest City in America – Fremont is ranked No.7 overall in WalletHub’s list of the greenest cities in the country. More specifically, Fremont is ranked No. 2 on environmental factors and tied with Honolulu and Anchorage, Alaska as the No. 1 city on energy sources.

  • Fremont Ranks 3rd Best City to Raise a Family – The City of Fremont ranked No. 3 as best place to raise a family in the country according to a study conducted by Wallet Hub.

  • Fremont Named as America’s Least Stressed City in 2018 – A new WalletHub report has ranked Fremont as America’s least stressed city in 2018. According to the report, Fremont was also ranked the lowest in divorce rates and financial stress. 

  • Fremont Ranks No. 1 in the Nation for Happiest Cities – The City of Fremont ranked No. 1 as the happiest city in the U.S. according to a study conducted by Wallet Hub.

  • Fremont Ranks No. 1 Most Inclusive City by the Urban Institute – The City of Fremont tops the list of 274 of the most-populous US cities on overall inclusion as ranked by the Urban Institute. The Inclusive Recovery Project looked at  overall, economic, and racial inclusion scores. 

  • Fremont Ranks No. 9 as Best City to Raise a Family – Fremont ranked No. 9 as the best big city in the U.S. to raise a family in a study conducted by SmartAsset. Fremont is the only California city in the top 10.

  • Fremont Ties for No. 8 as Best City to Sell a House – Not only is Fremont one of the best cities to buy a family home, it is also one of the best places to sell a house according to a study conducted by SmartAsset.
     
  • Fremont Ranks as Nation's 15th Best City for Women in Tech – The City of Fremont Ranked No. 15 in the nation as Best City for Women in Tech in a study conducted by SmartAsset.

  • Fremont Ranked in the Top 1% of Cities with the Lowest Credit-Card Debt – Fremont ranked in the Top 1% of Cities with the lowest credit-card debt in a recent study from WalletHub.

  • Fremont Named Best Place To Raise A Family In California – The City of Fremont ranked No. 5 as best place to raise a family in the country according to a study conducted by Wallet Hub. In California, Fremont tops the list.
  • 6th Greatest City for Women in Tech – The City of Fremont ranked No. 6 for women in tech in a study conducted by SmartAsset. The study looked at gender pay gap and income after housing costs. Fremont is the only Bay Area city to rank among the top 12 cities. 

  • Fremont Named Least Stressed City in America – The City of Fremont ranked No. 1 as the least stressed city in America according to a survey by WalletHub.

  • Fremont Named to 2017 Best Cities for Families – The City of Fremont was recognized as the 33rd best city in the U.S. for families in a recent study conducted by Apartment List.   • Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awards program for comprehensive annual financial reports. This was the 31st consecutive year that the Fremont city government has achieved this prestigious award.

  • 4th Best City for Working Parents – The City of Fremont was recognized as one of the nation’s top cities for working parents, according to a recent study conducted by NerdWallet and Business Insider. 

  • 2nd Best City in the U.S. to Raise Children – MyLife.com ranks Fremont no. 2 city in U.S. as the best at ensuring a quality childhood, and peace of mind for the parents raising them.

  • “On the Ground - Getting It Done: FOCUSed Growth” Award Winner – The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) awards program recognizes cities, towns, and counties that are doing their part to develop sustainable communities. 

  • City Cultural Diversity Award Winner – The awards program showcases NLC member cities, honoring their community leadership in developing creative and effective programs designed to improve and promote cultural diversity through a collaborative process with city officials, community leaders, and residents.

  • 10th Best City for Job Seekers in California – Nerdwallet calls out the top 10 cities for job seekers in California, taking into account the following questions: Is the city growing? Can you afford to live in the city comfortably? Are most people employed?

  • No. 2 Best Run City in America by 24/7 Wall St. – The annual ranking of “The Best and Worst Run Cities in America” by 24/7 Wall St. looks at data from a number of sources for the 100 largest cities in the country. Fremont comes in at no. 2!

  • No. 52 “Top 100 Places to Live in America” by Livability – Livability’s ranking of the top 100 best places to live focuses on small to mid-sized cities and what makes them great places to live and work.

  • Best City to Sell Your Home in Silicon Valley – The Movoto Real Estate Blog turned its city-ranking skills to the question of which cities in America are best for home sellers, taking into account home listing prices, competition in local real estate markets, crime rates, school quality, and unemployment rates.

  • No. 5 “Cities Creating the Most Tech Jobs” by Forbes – Forbes turned to Mark Schill, research director at Praxis Strategy Group, to analyze job creation trends in the nation’s 52 largest metropolitan areas from 2001 to 2013.

  • No. 10 “Happiest Mid-Size Cities in America” by CareerBliss – CareerBliss took a look at thousands of company reviews submitted by people who work in cities with populations greater than 100,000 and less than 1 million. The reviews evaluate how employees feel about several factors that affect workplace happiness, such as compensation, company culture and senior management.

  • No. 3 in Silicon Valley for the lowest crime rate – AreaVibes reveals the best places to live across the United States of America, based on amenities, cost of living, crime rates, education, employment, housing, and weather.


2012

 

  • No. 3 “Sharpest, Smartest Cities in America” – Reader’s Digest determined the 10 sharpest and smartest cities, looking at education level, eating and exercise habits, health conditions, and sociability.

  • No. 2 “Most Inventive City in America” by The Daily Beast/Newsweek – The Daily Beast calls out the nation’s top innovation hubs, taking into account the number of patent applications, patents awarded, patent applications per 100,000 residents, etc.

  • No. 1 in the nation for number of startups per capita by Sizeup.com – SizeUp sifted through millions of records from a plethora of sources to build a ranking of U.S. cities by technology startups per capita, and Fremont topped the list!

  • No. 4 on “Best Run Cities in America” by 24/7 Wall Street – This was 24/7 Wall St.’s first annual ranking of the best-run and worst-run cities in America. It reviewed the local economies, fiscal discipline and standard of living of the 100 largest cities by population to determine how well each is managed.
