Fremont Boulevard Widening Project

General Project Description
The Fremont Boulevard Widening Project is located between Cushing Parkway and West Warren Avenue in South Fremont. The project was awarded to the Contractor, Granite Rock Company, on July 7, 2015. The project will complete the majority of the unimproved portions of Fremont Boulevard between Cushing Parkway and West Warren Avenue, including installation of raised median islands between Cushing Parkway and Landing Parkway, and immediately south of Landing Parkway. From Landing Parkway to approximately 700 feet north of West Warren Avenue, the project will widen the roadway to two travel lanes in each direction, add median island striping and a two-way left turn center lane, and complete the missing street frontage improvements along the west side, including curb, gutter, sidewalk, street trees, streetlights, and stormwater treatment facilities. Striping for buffered bike lanes will be added in both directions north of Landing Parkway.

The project will also perform some pavement maintenance activities including installation of a cape seal and slurry seal on portions of Fremont Boulevard north and south of Landing Parkway.

A future phase of the Fremont Boulevard Widening Project will take place in Spring/Summer 2016, and will complete the widening of the approximately 700 feet long segment of roadway immediately north of West Warren Avenue (including pavement, sidewalk, curb & gutter, and extension of an existing drainage culvert), as well as install a sidewalk across the existing Alameda County Flood Control facility south of Landing Parkway (Line F).

Traffic Impacts
At least one lane of travel will remain open in each direction at all times. In general, most of the work will take place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Construction Schedule
Construction activities for this project are expected to take place between August 2015 and November 2015. Once completed, this project is expected to increase vehicular capacity and provide improved pedestrian accessibility to the area.
