***New law for 2016 - Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling - AB 1826***
Beginning April 2016, Fremont businesses that generate 8 cubic yards of organic waste per week must subscribe to commercial organics/composting service with Republic Services.
Organic waste (also called "organics") means:
landscape and pruning waste
nonhazardous wood waste
food-soiled paper waste that is mixed in with food waste
The City of Fremont and Republic Services offer a commercial recycling program for collecting food scraps and food-soiled paper, the Composting for Business program.
Adding composting collection for food scraps can save money and have a big environmental impact. Restaurants and food service facilities can benefit from subscribing to compost collection, since food scraps make up about 60% of a sit-down restaurant's waste stream.
In Fremont, composting services cost about 20% less than the same level of monthly garbage service. Various bin and cart sizes available.
Compost Service 2 yard bin $123.04
Garbage Service 2 yard bin $151.58
