Why?

  • California has instituted Senate Bill 1383 to keep food waste out of landfills. The bill pertains to residential and commercial waste. 
  • Organic waste in landfills causes methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming.
  • California has set new state targets to reduce compostable waste in landfills by 75% by 2025, and to rescue 20% of edible food waste.
