The City provides a one-stop-shop for construction needs. This includes the construction fire requirements for plan checks and inspections. Fire permits obtained through the Building and Safety Division are typical fire permits that might be obtained through fire departments in other cities, counties, or jurisdictions. Fire permits include Fire Code, Fire Sprinkler, and Fire Alarm permits. The current California Building Codes and local regulations are used to verify compliance.

Requesting a Fire Permit


The City has implemented an online submittal process for all new permit requests using the City's Citizen Access portal. The online submittal process should be used for all new fire permit requests. For more information, please visit the City's Online Permits webpage.

Requesting a Fire Inspection


Inspections are required for all fire permits. Fire inspection requests can be scheduled by email or by calling the automated inspection line at 510-494-4428. When requesting an inspection, please provide the permit number, inspection type, date requested, and site contact. Please note that the cut off time for next day inspections is 3 p.m. the business day prior to the date.

For single family residential fire sprinklers, fire inspection requests can be scheduled online through the City’s Citizen Access portal or by calling the automated inspection line at 510-494-4885. When requesting an inspection, please have the permit number available. Please note that the cut off time for next day inspections is 3 p.m. the business day prior to the date.

Requesting a Hazardous Materials Inspection

Hazardous materials inspection can be scheduled by email. Please include the permit number in the email.
