Centerville Railroad Safety Improvements

Project Overview
The Centerville Railroad Safety Improvement Project will install safety improvements at the following six at-grade crossings in coordination with Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA): 

    Blacow Road
    Dusterberry Way
    Maple Avenue
    Fremont Boulevard
    Shinn Street
    Clarke Drive

Project Goals
The Centerville Railroad Safety Improvement Project seeks to achieve the following goals:

  • Implement supplemental safety measures (SSMs) at each at-grade crossing to improve the safety of all modes of travel across the railroad tracks to reduce the number and severity of accidents by eliminating hazards
  • Submit a Notice of Intent for a Quiet Zone in the Centerville Group (Blacow, Dusterberry, Maple, Fremont & Shinn)
  • Submit a Notice of Intent for a Quiet Zone at Clarke Drive
  • Establish a quiet zone in the Centerville neighborhood and along the Altamont Corridor Express (ACE) Train corridor within Fremont

Project Funding
In June 2021, the City Council approved funding to start project planning. This project is seeking regional grant funds for final design and construction
