Council to Consider Draft District Maps as Fremont Transitions to District-based Election System

US Flag

On March 21, 2017, the City of Fremont adopted a resolution of intention to transition from an at-large to a district-based councilmember election system with six districts and a Mayor at-large for a seven member Council.  The City has already held three of the five required public hearings where the Fremont City Council and community provided input on the criteria to guide the creation of the district boundaries. A sixth public hearing has been added and is scheduled for Tuesday, June 13 at 7:00 pm. This public hearing is part of the regular City Council meeting, which will be held at 3300 Capitol Ave., Building A in the Council Chambers.

Using input received thus far, draft district maps have been drawn, and the fourth public hearing on Tuesday, May 16 at 7 p.m. will allow the public the opportunity to provide further input regarding the proposed district boundaries and the potential sequence of elections. Any amended or new maps were published on May 9, seven days prior to the fourth public hearing on May 16, and can be viewed at our district elections webpage.

The fifth public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at 7:00 pm. At the sixth and final public hearing on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 7:00 pm, the Fremont City Council will vote to adopt an ordinance establishing district-based elections. All public hearings will be held at City Hall, located at 3300 Capitol Ave., Building A in the Council Chambers.

For more information and to view the draft district maps, visit our district elections webpage. Community members are also invited and encouraged to share input, comments, and feedback by email. Comments received will be shared with the Fremont City Council as part of the public feedback at the hearings.
