Statement from City of Fremont and Mayor Lily Mei on Unity

City Seal 003

Today, the City of Fremont and Mayor Lily Mei issued the following statements:

Statement from City of Fremont:

“As a matter of official public policy, the City of Fremont has zero tolerance of prejudice, racism, bigotry, hatred, and violence. Our City stands in unity together and offers our condolences for the families of the victims of the shooting at The Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The City is flying its U.S. flags at half-staff in honor of the victims of this act of violence as directed by the presidential proclamation. In addition, at the November 13 City Council meeting, the Fremont City Council will be joining other Bay Area cities, in proclaiming November 11-18, 2018, as United Against Hate Week, and supporting the efforts of Compassionate Fremont and the Human Relations Commission in working to create an inclusive city, welcoming of diversity. The proclamation further states that Fremont will continue to stand firmly with other cities who believe in fairness, justice, and equal treatment of all and will work with our community to eliminate hatred and intolerance.”

Statement from Fremont Mayor Lily Mei:

“Fremont must continue its long tradition of tolerance and respect for people of all religious and cultural backgrounds, so that all Fremont community members feel accepted and safe in our community.”
