[ARCHIVED] City of Fremont to Begin Implementing Parking Lot Closures at Central Park on April 9

Covid update text

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an evolving, unprecedented public health crisis that has necessitated several emergency measures to keep the Fremont community safe and help slow the spread of the disease.

For the past few weeks all recreation/park facilities and programs including community centers, picnic tables, playgrounds, dog park, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, skate park, drinking fountains, programs, classes, and facility rentals have been cancelled and/or closed.

Much of the public messaging going out on a national, state, and local level from health professionals encourages going outside for a walk or hike around your neighborhood.  It is a well-known fact that getting outdoors helps our mental and physical health.

In Fremont, Central Park is our most popular park, serving both local residents and those visiting from surrounding communities. In an effort to decrease drive-in traffic by 60%-90%, the City of Fremont will begin closing several parking lots on Thursday, April 9, 2020. These measures will assist the City’s overall goal to limit social/physical distancing and decrease crowding of parking lots, park pathways, and trails.  Additional parking restrictions will be evaluated and may be implemented at other parks, as needed.  The City of Fremont has been encouraging residents to stay local by walking, jogging, or biking through one’s neighborhood rather than drive to larger regional parks.

The Shelter-in Place Order is meant to encourage social distancing of six feet, only use vehicles for essential activities, and to stay physically active by taking walks or runs in your neighborhood with people who live in your immediate household.
