[ARCHIVED] April 30, 2020 City of Fremont Update in Response to COVID-19

Covid update text

Today’s City of Fremont update highlights resumption of Board and Commission meetings; public use of face coverings; Community Development frequently asked questions and answers; how we’re helping unhoused neighbors; and new Zoom classes added for seniors.

Many City Board and Commission Meetings to Resume

Beginning in May, many City Board and Commission meetings will resume and be held virtually (either telephone conferencing or Zoom meetings) according to regular schedules or reduced frequency. Commission Agendas will be posted with updated instructions for public participation. To subscribe to the City’s Board and Commissions Agendas and Minutes visit our webpage and view the options under Agenda Center.

Public Use of Face Coverings

All Fremont residents, businesses, and visitors to the city are now required to follow the Alameda County Public Health Department Order (20-08), requiring the public use of face coverings to protect residents and workers. For this reason, the City of Fremont has rescinded its own Executive Order, EO 2020-03, which was issued prior to the County Order and also required the use of face coverings at certain essential places of business to prevent the community spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). View ACPHD Order 20-08 for more information and complete details.

Community Development FAQs during COVID-19

The City’s Community Development Department has published a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document to help answer questions about the City’s construction and development services during the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g., permit applications, plan reviews, and building inspections) and what types of construction projects are allowed under the Alameda County Shelter in Place Order. This document will be updated regularly.

How We’re Helping Unhoused Neighbors

The City’s commitment to helping our unhoused neighbors has not wavered during the Coronavirus pandemic. While continuing with many of our regular services, our Human Services Department has augmented what it does to fill the gaps in services that have surfaced during the Shelter in Place Order. Here’s a snapshot of current services being provided:

  • The CleanStart Mobile Hygiene Unit is running on its regular schedule, providing meals or snack bags at each location.
  • Shower services at the Fremont Senior Center are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • Bagged lunches are provided at the Senior Center Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • In partnership with the City’s Environmental Services Division, seven handwashing and toilet stations have been installed throughout the city.
  • Frozen meals are delivered to residents residing at our temporary housing located at the Islander Motel.
  • City staff is in the field providing water and masks, as well as sharing information about hand washing, how to stay hygienic, and ways one can isolate from others when unhoused.

The City’s homeless team is connected to services provided through Alameda County and is making referrals to Operation Comfort when appropriate. They’re also referring individuals to hotel services for those exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 and who need a safe place to isolate. For more information about homeless resources in Fremont visit our webpage.

New Zoom Classes Added for Seniors
