Youth Mental Health and Wellness Forum

The City of Fremont Human Services Department’s Youth and Family Services Division is hosting a Youth Mental Health and Wellness Forum on Thursday, December 10 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. This virtual event represents the culmination of multi-year work it has done for a Kaiser Permanente Mental Health Stigma Reduction grant.

Mental Health Stigma expert, Dr. Lawrence Yang from New York University and Dr. Anu Patel from Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Department of Mental Health and Wellness, along with City of Fremont's Youth Wellness Ambassadors comprised of students of Fremont Unified School District will present on youth mental health, stigma, and strategies for improving youth mental health and wellness.

Discussion and Q&A will follow the presentation. If you have questions about youth mental health you would like to ask, send and email by Wednesday, December 9 at 5:00 pm.

This virtual event is free to attend, but space is limited. Register online.

About the Presenters

Dr. Lawrence Yang is an Associate Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences at NYU- College of Global Public Health. Dr. Yang directs the Global Mental Health and Stigma Program at the College of Global Public Health. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University, where he was faculty for 11 years. Dr. Yang’s research focuses on the social factors that influence course of schizophrenia, and he has received training in clinical psychology, anthropology, and psychiatric epidemiology.

Dr. Anu Patel is a clinical child psychologist at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Department of Mental Health and Wellness. She specializes in anxiety, ADHD, and depression. She also brings the unique experience of being raised by immigrant parents, which has deepened her understanding of intergenerational differences. She feels fortunate to have worked in the Fremont community for 22 years and grateful for all the children and families that have allowed her to be part of their journey.
