Fremont City Councilmembers Sworn In

At the December 8, 2020, regularly scheduled City Council meeting held virtually via Zoom, new members were sworn into council following the November 3 General Municipal Election. The ceremonial oath of office and installation were administered during the Council Meeting for the re-elected mayor and new/re-elected councilmembers, each elected to a 4-year term. This was Fremont’s first district-based election for District 5 and District 6.

The City of Fremont welcomes:

Mayor Lily Mei, At-large

Teresa Keng, Council District 1

Raj Salwan, Council District 5

Teresa Cox, Council District 6

Newly elected councilmember Teresa Cox is the City’s first African American elected to the Fremont City Council since the City’s incorporation in 1956. Prior to being elected to the Council, Ms. Cox served 12 years on the Ohlone Community College Board of Trustees.

The City Council also bid farewell to outgoing councilmember Vinnie Bacon and thanked him for his dedication of nine years of service to the Fremont community. Mr. Bacon served on the City’s Economic Development Advisory Commission for one year and the Fremont City Council for two four-year terms during his public service.

With Fremont’s new councilmembers now sworn in, the Fremont City Council includes: Mayor Lily Mei, Vice Mayor Jenny Kassan (District 3), Councilmember Teresa Keng (District 1), Councilmember Rick Jones (District 2), Councilmember Yang Shao (District 4), Councilmember Raj Salwan (District 5), and Councilmember Teresa Cox (District 6).

The Fremont City Council meets the first, second, and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings are held virtually via Zoom. Meetings are broadcast over Cable TV Channel 27 or webcast online. For more information visit our Council Agendas, Minutes, and Webcasts webpage.
