Fire Chief Curtis JacobsonAs Fire Chief, Curtis Jacobson is responsible for the operational readiness of the Fire Department on a 24-hour basis, 365 days a year. In addition, he is responsible for the readiness and availability of all the supporting functions in the Fire Department. Fremont's Fire Department has 160 full-time employees and 11 fire stations.

Chief Jacobson was raised in San Jose and Richmond, California, where he graduated from El Cerrito High School.

Chief Jacobson rose from recruit to the rank of Fire Chief over the course of a 25-year career in San Jose. He worked as a Firefighter, Fire Engineer, Fire Prevention Inspector, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, Division Chief, and Deputy Chief prior to being appointed to the Fire Chief position. He held leadership positions in the Bureaus of Fire Prevention, Field Operations, Operational Support, and Training.

Chief Jacobson has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Protection Technology from Mission College. He also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and is currently completing his Master’s Degree in Public Administration, both from San Jose State University. He holds a variety of professional certificates from the California Fire Service Training and Education System, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the National Fire Academy. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.
