1. BAY TRAIL – CUSHING PARKWAY

LOCATION: Bayside Industrial District
LEVEL
: Easy (Paved, great views)

The wide sidewalk on the western side of Cushing Parkway over the Causeway marked as a multi-use trail. Great views of the vernal wetlands. Plenty of wildlife. Wildflowers in the spring.

2. FREMONT BART – LITTLE LOOP

LOCATION: Central District
LEVEL
: Easy (Short loop, 2 miles)

  • Exit BART station via RRFB signal onto Walnut Ave then NE to Guardino Drive.
  • Guardino to Stevenson. (regular old bike lanes)
  • Stevenson to Paseo Padre (partially protected bike lane with old-style delineators)
  • Paseo Padre to Walnut Ave. (protected bike lane with new-style delineators)
  • Walnut Ave to Civic Center. Pass by bike counter. Turn left via protected intersection.
  • Civic Center to BART Way and return to the original location.

3. FREMONT BART – BIG LOOP

LOCATION: Central District

  • Exit BART at Walnut Ave raised bikeway and head SW towards Paseo Padre
  • Left turn via protected intersection onto Paseo Padre
  • Paseo Padre to Driscoll (new protected bike lanes)
  • Right onto Driscoll to future Irvington BART site at Washington Blvd intersection (more protected bike lanes)
  • Washington Blvd/Roberts Ave/Main St to East Bay Greenway Trail
  • North on East Bay Greenway trail back to Paseo Padre
  • Paseo Padre to Walnut Ave. (protected bike lane with new-style delineators)
  • Walnut Ave to Civic Center. Pass by bike counter. Turn left via protected intersection.
  • Civic Center to BART Way and return to the original location.

Four parks connected by low-stress residential streets.

10. ARDENWOOD PATH

LOCATION: North Fremont District
LEVEL
: Medium (paved but rough due to tree roots uplifting the ground)

This route is paved, but rough due to lots of root upwelling, narrow, flat, shaded. Short tree-lined pathway connecting Paseo Padre Parkway near Deep Creek Road to Alameda Creek Trail.

11. COYOTE CREEK LAGOON

LOCATION: Bayside Industrial District

LEVEL: Medium

Pleasant, flat, uncrowded 2-mile gravel trail with lots of birdwatching opportunities year-round. For the more adventurous, a dirt track branches off at the Northern end. If you're getting there by car, there are small parking areas at either end (see pictures).

12. QUARRY LAKES RECREATION AREA - HORSESHOE LAKE PENINSULA LOOP

LOCATION: Brookvale District.
LEVEL
: Medium (3 miles, flat)

A quaint OFF-ROAD ride on packed-dirt pedestrian and bike trails through Quarry Lakes to the Horseshoe Lake Peninsula and back. The Horseshoe Lake Peninsula has picnic tables and is a nice place to take a break and enjoy the views.

POINTS OF INTEREST:

  1. Horseshoe Lake Peninsula Picnic Area - A few tables and benches here to picnic, relax and enjoy the views. Bring some coffee and read a book. You can fish here too.

13. ALAMEDA CREEK (QUARRY LAKES) TO NILES HISTORIC DISTRICT LOOP

LOCATION: Brookvale, Niles Districts.
LEVEL
: Difficult (7 miles, mostly flat)

A PAVED ride down Alameda Creek from Quarry Lakes (Isherwood Staging Area) to the historic Niles District of Fremont and the California Nursery Historical Park. Charlie Chaplin used to make silent films in Niles during the 1910's-1920's era.

14. MISSION PEAK SUMMIT RIDE (STANFORD AVE. START)

LOCATION: Vineyards - Avalon District. (South Fremont).
LEVEL
: Difficult (3.1 miles to the summit (6.2 miles round-trip, moderate to steep climb)

A very challenging OFF-ROAD ride from the Mission Peak Trail Head at Stanford Ave. to the Mission Peak Summit (2,497 ft). This is somewhat more difficult than the summit ride from Ohlone College. At a rise of 2,129 ft over a short 3.1 miles, the trails go from moderately steep to highly steep and this ride is recommended only for the most experienced mountain bike riders with high stamina. You will be rewarded with spectacular views of the East Bay and the South Bay. Parking at the trailhead is free but very limited and you may need to park closer to Mission Blvd.

POINTS OF INTEREST:

  1. Rest Stop with Restroom - Rest area with a picnic table and a single-person restroom. Head west from marker "D" on the Peak Trail to find the rest area.
  2. Mission Peak Summit - Summit is 2,497 ft. above sea level. The climb is 2,129 ft from the trailhead. Trailhead is 367 ft. above sea level.

15. MISSION PEAK SUMMIT RIDE (OHLONE COLLEGE START)

LOCATION: Mission San Jose District. (South Fremont).
LEVEL
: Difficult (3.5 miles to the summit (7.0 miles round-trip), moderate to steep climb)

A challenging OFF-ROAD ride from the Mission Peak Trail Head at Ohlone College to the Mission Peak Summit (2,497 ft.) This is somewhat less difficult than the summit ride from Stanford Ave. At a rise of 2,096 ft. over a short 3.5 miles, the trails go from moderately steep to highly steep and this ride is recommended only for the most experienced mountain bike riders with high stamina. You will be rewarded with spectacular views of the East Bay and the South Bay. Parking at the Ohlone College public parking lot is limited and requires payment at the kiosk. Recommend parking in the residential areas south of Mission Blvd and riding up.

16. QUARRY LAKES RECREATIONAL AREA TO COYOTE HILLS REGIONAL PARK (BAYVIEW TRAIL OVERLOOK)

LOCATION: Brookvale (start), Northgate, & Ardenwood Districts.
LEVEL
: Difficult (12-14 miles round trip but flat)

A PAVED 6-7 mile ride from Quarry Lakes to the Bayview Trail Overlook in Coyote Hills and back for a total of 12-14 miles round trip. A nice flat ride along the paved trail of Alameda Creek with views of local fauna (birds) and flora.

POINTS OF INTEREST:

  1. Bayview Trail Overlook (MID-POINT) - Overlook has placards about wildlife in Coyote Hills Park and a single-track trail down to the waterfront.
