The City of Fremont is dedicated to SUSTAINABILITY—the ability of the current generation to meet its needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.

Fremont's sustainability efforts work to address the looming threat of human-induced climate change by encouraging resource conservation measures, reducing environmental pollutants, and developing in harmony with nature.
Response to Climate Change
In 2012, the City of Fremont adopted its Climate Action Plan, providing a roadmap for achieving our stringent community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goal of 25% by 2020 from a 2005 baseline.

The Fremont Green Challenge is the City's greenhouse gas reduction and sustainable community initiative. As a semifinalist competitor in the $5 Million Georgetown University Energy Prize (GUEP), Fremont is currently one of 50 communities nationwide working to dramatically reduce its energy consumption over the next two years.
