Materials & Waste

The following is a list of priority strategies and actions within the Materials and Waste focus area that the City will aim to implement within the first three years of adoption of Climate Ready Fremont.

Community Level includes actions that support community-scale emission reductions and/or improve resiliency.

City Operations includes actions specific to municipal infrastructure, internal City processes and procedures, and/or City employee activities.

Materials Reuse & Plastic Waste Reduction

 

COMMUNITY LEVEL: Evaluate the forthcoming model plastic waste/reuse ordinance being developed by StopWaste for potential adoption in Fremont.

COMMUNITY LEVEL: Partner with Rethink Disposables (under contract with StopWaste) to offer technical assistance to food service establishments to adopt reusables for dine-in situations.

CITY OPERATIONS: Complete a pilot project integrating reusable food ware options at the Aqua Adventure Water Park in Fremont; evaluate expanding to other community-facing City services and programming.

Managing Recycling & Organics

 

COMMUNITY LEVEL: Develop a plan to improve organics implementation in multifamily dwellings; provide education, audits, and other technical assistance to multifamily property owners and managers to increase waste diversion rates.

CITY OPERATIONS: Conduct a waste audit at City facilities and prioritize efforts to increase waste diversion at the highest waste generation facilities through staff education and outreach on the proper sorting of materials.
