Diwali Festival of Lights
November 7, 2023 –  The Fremont City Council celebrates Diwali, the Festival of Lights by raising the Diwali flag at City Hall. The City of Fremont recognizes the important contributions that Indian American residents have made to our City’s social, economic, political, and cultural fabric.

Native American Heritage Month November 2023 
November 7, 2023 – The Fremont City Council honors and recognizes the month of November 2023 as Native American Heritage Month in the City of Fremont. The City reaffirms our appreciation of and respect for their deeply held values and traditions, nurturing this important part of our culture for generations yet to come.

Hispanic Heritage Month
October 17, 2023 – The Fremont City Council declares September 15 through October 15, as Hispanic Heritage Month, and recognizes the many contributions and accomplishments of the Hispanic community, as well as their deep commitment to family and community, enduring work ethic, and a perseverance to succeed and contribute to society.

Filipino American History Month 
October 17, 2023 – The Fremont City Council recognizes October as Filipino Heritage Month, which pays tribute to the lasting and significant contributions of Filipino Americans to our community and our nation, in areas including government, business, education, arts and sciences, medicine and healthcare, law enforcement, and the military. 

National Juneteenth Independence Day
June 13, 2023  The City Council recognizes and honors June 19th as National Juneteenth Independence Day to recommit ourselves to diversity, equality, and inclusion throughout the City of Fremont.

Pride Month - June 2023
June 6, 2023 The City Council of the City of Fremont proclaims June 2022 as Pride Month in the City of Fremont and encourages everyone in our community to celebrate the spirit and dedication of this vibrant community.

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia
May 9, 2023 - City Council proclaims May 17, 2023, as Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia in the City of Fremont as it directly aligns with one of the City of Fremont's greatest strengths, which is the diversity of its people and its long-standing tradition of upholding the dignity of the individual, supporting legal equality and fair treatment for all citizens.

Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - May 2023
May 9, 2023 - City Council proclaims the month of May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and congratulates them for their outstanding contributions to preserving and sharing their cultures and customs with the community.

Fair Housing Month April 2023
April 18, 2023 – The Fremont City Council proclaims the month of April 2023 as “Fair Housing Month” in Fremont to establish Fremont as an inclusive community committed to fair housing and to promote appropriate activities by private and public entities that provide or advocate for equal housing opportunities for all residents and prospective residents of the State of California.

Condemning Hinduphobia
April 18, 2023 – The Fremont City Council recognizes Hindu American Foundation for their advocacy in educating the public about Hindu and Hinduism, and their support for ensuring the well-being of all people and the planet. 

Fair Housing Month April 2023
April 4, 2023 – The Fremont City Council proclaims the month of April 2023 as “Fair Housing Month,” and encourages all residents and community organizations to celebrate the value of harmonious, inclusive, and diverse communities of neighbors and to support the goal of equal housing opportunity for all people.

Honoring Black History Month
February 7, 2023 – The Fremont City Council proclaims February as Black History Month in the City of Fremont, and invites everyone to recognize this month to celebrate the diversity and character of our community and highlight the importance of sharing our culture, customs and traditions with those around us.

Recognition of Afro American Cultural and Historical Society 46th Commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 
January 10, 2023 – The City of Fremont recognizes the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King as well as the work that the Afro American Cultural and Historical Society has done to uplift and educate the citizens of our community. Local churches, corporations, organizations, leaders and individuals are encouraged to work towards creating a beloved community. The Fremont City Council recognizes and celebrates the 46th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day in Fremont.

2022

Native American Heritage Month November 2022 
November 15, 2022 – The Fremont City Council proclaims November 2022 as Native American Heritage Month honoring Native Americans’ contributions to our great nation as well as Andrew Galvan, a descendant of the Ohlone Indians whose ancestral lands comprise the greater San Francisco Bay Region and who has been instrumental in the preservation of Ohlone Indian Tribe information for the benefit of future generations.

Establishing Bay Area Stands Against Hate Week
November 1, 2022 – To combat racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, and Islamaphobia, Fremont City Council proclaims November 13 – November 19 as United Against Hate Week in Fremont. The City continues to support the work of Compassionate Fremont, the Tri-City Interfaith Council, and the Human Relations Commission and is committed to learning from our diverse residents, surface local concerns, and seeking solutions together.

American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month – October 2022 
October 18, 2022 – The Fremont City Council declares October 2022 as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month. We encourage everyone to acknowledge and celebrate the rich history and guiding virtues of Muslim Americans who have positively impacted and enriched the advancement of our society through their many contributions and achievements.

Hindu Heritage Month – October 2022 
October 18, 2022 – The Fremont City Council proclaims October 2022 as Hindu Heritage Month in appreciation of our Hindu community’s contributions toward pluralism, non-violence, gender equality, human rights, and much more to the City of Fremont. We invite everyone to celebrate by learning about the history, culture, traditions, values, and many achievements of Hindu Americans.  

Recognizing Filipino Heritage Month
October 4, 2022 – The Fremont City Council recognizes October as Filipino Heritage Month, which pays tribute to the lasting and significant contributions of Filipino Americans to our community and our nation, as educators and artists, politicians and laborers, and veterans and judges. Today, the East Bay is a vibrant center of the Filipino community, deeply rooted with over 16,000 Filipino Americans calling Fremont home.

Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month – September 2022
September 13, 2022 – The Fremont City Council declares September 15 through October 15, 2022, as Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month. We encourage everyone to celebrate the generations of Hispanic and Latino Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our society through their many contributions and achievements.

May 15, 2022 - The City Council proclaims May 22, 2022 as Harvey Milk Day in the City of Fremont, in recognition of the life and legacy of Harvey Milk and his contributions to the cause of equality for all people.

May 3, 2022 - The City Council declares the month of May as Jewish Heritage Month in appreciation of the achievements and contributions made by members of the Jewish community to the City of Fremont. The Fremont City Council encourages all to promote and join in the appropriate celebrations and observances throughout the City of Fremont

Asian Heritage Month - May 2022
May 3, 2022 - City Council proclaims the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and congratulates the South Bay Chinese Club for its outstanding contributions to preserving and sharing the Chinese culture and customs with the community.

Twentieth Annual March for Meals Month - March 2022
March 15, 2022 - City Council proclaim March 2022 as the 20th Annual March for Meals Month and urge every citizen to take this month to honor our Meals on Wheels programs, the seniors they serve and the volunteers who care for them. Our recognition of, and involvement in, the national 2022 March for Meals can enrich our entire community and help combat senior hunger and isolation in America.

Women's History Month - Celebrate Elected Women to Fremont City Council Past and Present
March 1, 2022 - City Council honors and recognizes the month of March 2022 as Women’s History Month in the City of Fremont in appreciation of the achievements and contributions made by women in our community to the City of Fremont. 

Country Club of Washington Township Women's Club 125th Anniversary
March 1, 2022 - City Council honors and recognizes their trailblazing achievements and for their community service for over 125 years to the City of Fremont during the month of March for Women’s History Month.  

Honoring Black History Month - February 2022
February 8, 2022 - City Council proclaims February as Black History Month in the City of Fremont and invites everyone to recognize this month to celebrate our diverse heritage and culture and continue our efforts to create a world that is more just, peaceful, and prosperous for all. 

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day & Beyond
January 11, 2022 - City Council recognizes the attention to community service, equality, and social justice of Dr. King and therefore proclaims that Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2022 on January 17, 2022 as a Day of Service and recognition of equity and social justice for the Fremont community, and call upon the people of the community to pay tribute to the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through participation in community service projects on Martin Luther King Day and throughout the year.

Recognition of the 45th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration
January 11, 2022 - The ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the City of Fremont's commitment to human rights are worthy of reflection and serve as a reminder that improving the quality of life for all members of society is the responsibility of every member of our society. The City Council, hereby recognize and also celebrate the 45th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the City of Fremont.

Transgender Day of Remembrance Resolution
November 20, 2021 - City Council proclaims November 20 as Transgender Day of Remembrance in Fremont, memorializing those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice, supporting transgender individuals, and calling attention to the ongoing epidemic of violence and transphobia.

Establishing Bay Area Stands Against Hate Week

Proclaiming November as Sikh Awareness
November 2, 2021 - City Council proclaims the month of November 2021 as Sikh Awareness and Appreciation Month and recognizes the Sikh Community, Fremont Gurdwara Sahib, and Sikhs For Humanity for their efforts during the pandemic, including providing a daily food drive, free PPE kits, multiple grocery drives, and a vaccination drive.

New Reporting Center Established to Report Incidents of Hate Related to COVID-19
March 25, 2020 - The City of Fremont provides information about the Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, and Asian Pacific Planning and Policy Council’s (A3PCON) new reporting center to collect and track incidents of anti-Asian American and Pacific Islander hate, violence, and discrimination. The City also urges the residents to report hate crimes to the Fremont Police Department.

Fremont Stand’s Against Hate Resolution
February 13, 2018 - Fremont City Council endorses and adopts the “Fremont Stands United Against Hate” language and authorizes a poster campaign.

Reaffirming and Proclaiming the City of Fremont as a Compassionate Sanctuary City
March 7, 2017 - The City of Fremont adopted the recommendation of its Human Relations Commission and proclaimed itself a Compassionate Sanctuary City at the Fremont City Council meeting.

2016

Fremont Designated as a Compassionate City
January 12, 2016 - Fremont City Council designates Fremont a Compassionate City, joining a growing worldwide network of Compassionate Communities which have signed the Charter for Compassion in 50 countries and over 70 cities globally.
