Natural & Urban Landscapes

The following is a list of priority strategies and actions within the Natural and Urban Landscapes focus area that the City will aim to implement within the first three years of adoption of Climate Ready Fremont.

Community Level includes actions that support community-scale emission reductions and/or improve resiliency.

City Operations includes actions specific to municipal infrastructure, internal City processes and procedures, and/or City employee activities.

COMMUNITY LEVEL: Adopt the City’s Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP); review City ordinances, regulations, and policies to support the plan’s goals.*

*The City's UFMP was adopted in April 2023. City staff is currently reviewing ordinances, regulations, and policies to support the plan's goals.

CITY OPERATIONS: Regularly apply compost/mulch to landscapes at City facilities to improve soil water retention and carbon sequestration properties and align with Senate Bill 1383 procurement targets.

COMMUNITY LEVEL: Begin tree plantings in targeted neighborhoods with lower urban tree canopy and in underserved areas, with a goal of 800 trees annually.
