Smart City

Fremont Smart City wheel outlining priorities: Mobility, Public Safety, Energy/Environment, City Operations, Community Engagement

Our Vision of a Smart City

The mention of the term “smart city” might elicit visions of a technological, futuristic hub with hover cars and robot companions, but in Fremont, we are creating our version of a smart city that is connected, diverse, sustainable, transit-friendly, livable, and convenient. Through efforts such as installing microgrids on fire stations, and being one of the first public safety agencies to deploy and all electric police patrol car, Fremont continues to be recognized as a smart city solutions and infrastructure leader.

Priorities

Organized into five priority areas, our Smart Cities Framework contains short and long-term goals in the areas of:

Movements in Mobility
Prioritizing Public Safety
Becoming Climate Ready
Enhancing City Operations
Incorporating Community Engagement

All these initiatives align with Fremont’s smart city values to create an ecosystem that supports accessibility, mobility, sustainability, privacy, safety, resiliency, economic opportunity, community, and shared responsibility.

How We Prioritize

But that still leaves the question of how we determine which project comes first. We prioritize existing ideas and vet new ones based on level of:

  • Impact
  • Feasibility
  • Ease of implementation
  • City purview and priorities
  • Community support
  • Legal and policy impact
  • Budget availability
  • Lifecycle cost
