Political Campaign Signs

During election season, political campaign signs are a common sight across the Bay Area, including Fremont. Campaign signs are allowed where other types of signs might be prohibited because of their importance as modes of free speech.

City Ordinance

The City has an ordinance regarding displaying temporary signs during election periods.

Per the ordinance, political campaign signs are prohibited on public property, including:

  • public property streets
  • center medians, landscape planter strips, or pedestrian ramps
  • street lights, telephone poles, or other street furniture

Signs are allowed on private property subject to the conditions and limitations described below.

**NOTE: For the recent election on November 5, 2024, signs must be removed by November 20, 2024. To help with the disposal of signs, a public waste bin is available in the parking lot behind Fremont City Hall at 3300 Capitol Avenue.**
