Better Block Mission San Jose

The Mission San Jose town center is a commercial district near Washington and Mission Boulevards, anchored by the historic Mission San Jose church and museum. The Better Block Foundation and City of Fremont partnered with the local community to bring their ideas to life and make Mission San Jose a more vibrant place to gather.

In partnership with the Better Block Foundation, the City organized an exciting, temporary transformation of Ellsworth Street in the historic Mission San Jose district on September 9 & 10, 2022. This community-led vision reimagined Ellsworth Street as a lively, safe, and welcoming neighborhood space and thriving commercial district for all, ultimately helping to spark creativity around the use of this public space. Over the course of six weeks, Better Block collected over 130 responses from the local community to spark inspiration for what would make this area a thriving commercial district that everyone can enjoy. The two-day community block party welcomed people of all ages to enjoy live entertainment, a makers market, food trucks, beer & wine gardens, and more.
