On April 16, 2019, the City Council adopted the Source of Income Discrimination amendment to the Rent Review Ordinance, which went into effect on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

Under this new law, landlords can no longer discriminate against existing or potential tenants based on source of income. This amendment expands the definition of ”source of income” to mean all lawful sources of income or rental assistance program, homeless assistance program, security deposit assistance program, or housing subsidy program. This includes subsidies like the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8).
