The City of Fremont was awarded a $1.2 million grant from the Resource Agency California River Parkway Program for creek restoration and other improvements to Sabercat Creek. The project provides critical creek and habitat restoration, reduces erosion, greatly improves public access by connecting two pedestrian access links under Paseo Padre Parkway, provides safety vehicle and ADA access, and repairs existing trails along Sabercat Creek. The project is estimated at $2.2 million with additional funding from the Clean Water Protection Fee and Alameda County Flood Control District.

Project Elements

• A 1,250 foot reach of trail under Paseo Padre Parkway that will connect existing east and west trails
• New emergency vehicle and ADA access west of Paseo Padre Parkway
• Installation of up to four rock weirs to prevent further erosion in the creek
• Biotechnical bank stabilization where erosion threatens the existing trail
• Riparian enhancement, including native planting and removal of exotics
• Alternative water source and fencing for cattle.

• All ages are welcome
• Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult, who must also be registered.
• Students, your volunteering can count towards community service hours
