Home MenuCity Profile
As the fourth largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area, Fremont's Silicon Valley location is the ideal place to call home or start your business. Don't just take our word for it: WalletHub named Fremont as the happiest city in the United States in 2021, 2022, and 2023!
But what makes Fremont so ideal? It's our diverse community mixed with the unique combination of being an incredible place to live, work, and play.
Think Location
Fremont is conveniently located with easy access to many transportation options to take residents across the Bay Area and beyond from Interstates 680 and 880; to rail transport lines, including Altamont Commuter Express (ACE), Amtrak Capitol Corridor, and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system; to airports and ports including San Jose Airport, Oakland Airport, San Francisco Airport, and the Port of Oakland.
Residents are attracted to Fremont for its nationally-recognized, high-ranking public schools, our 1,224 acres of well-kept parks, and our many recreational amenities, including beautiful Lake Elizabeth in Central Park, Ardenwood Historic Farm, Niles Canyon Railway, and Mission San Jose (California's 14th mission).
Think Innovation
Fremont is home to a broad variety of innovative companies including over 1,200 high tech, life science, and clean technology firms. In fact, with over 900 advanced manufacturing companies in Fremont, 35% of jobs are related to manufacturing.
But that's not all. We also are home to 500 eateries/restaurants and over 3,600 small businesses.
Fremont's broad range of quality, affordable commercial real estate as well as its access to an educated, talented workforce make it an attractive home for any industry, including household names such as Seagate, Tesla, and Meta. Think People
Fremont is one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse cities in the Bay Area, with 49% of our residents being born outside of the United States and 62.9% speaking a language other than English at home.
With a reputation for being ambitious, many of our residents are highly educated with high-paying jobs in a variety of business sectors. In addition to being ambitious, they are also inventive; 1.4 in every 100 Fremont residents holds a patent.
To top it off, Fremont residents also are known for being family-oriented; WalletHub ranked Fremont as the best city to raise a family for two years running.
Think Sustainability
Finally, Fremont keeps sustainability top of mind, reimagining how the City can positively impact the environment. In fact, the City placed in the top 10 of WalletHub's greenest cities in America in 2022, set a goal to achieve long-term carbon neutrality by 2045, and has already reduced 29.7% of carbon dioxide emissions since 2005.
City staff are consistently looking for ways to incorporate environmentally friendly practices into City planning. To name a few, Fremont has installed fire station microgrids to boost efficiency and reliability, supported electric vehicle infrastructure by placing publicly accessible EV chargers throughout the city, and adopted an updated Climate Action Plan, which provides a series of local greenhouse gas emission reduction and climate adaptation measures to be undertaken through the year 2030.
