2nd Grade Field Trip: Garden Wonders, Critters & More!

Students will explore our pollinator garden, looking closely for critters big and small while learning about pollinators, beneficial bugs and birds that help control unwanted pests found throughout the garden. Students will observe both host and nectar plants while learning about these critical plant and insect relationships, why we don’t spray chemicals in our garden, and why our motto is “Only Rain Down the Storm Drain!”

3rd Grade Field Trip: Watershed Exploration

With Stivers Lagoon and Mission Creek as our backdrop, students will explore features and functions of our watersheds learning all about what we can do to help keep them clean and healthy. Students will also learn about the harmful effects of pollution and the importance of wetlands. Inside our classroom students will observe aquatic organisms using petri dishes, eye droppers, hand lenses and other laboratory equipment while learning why our motto is “Only Rain Down the Storm Drain!” Hopefully we spot some park wildlife along the way!

2nd Grade Garden Wonders Field Trip

3rd Grade Watershed Exploration Field Trip

Due to a variety of challenging environmental factors we have changed the standard teaching location of our 3rd grade Watershed Exploration field trips. The video above depicts a field trip throughout Stivers Lagoon Nature Area. We now utilize a portion of Mission Creek near our Nature Learning Center with Stivers Lagoon as our backdrop while learning about creeks and wetlands. Despite the slightly altered venue the spirit of the presentation above remains the same.
