RESPONSIBILITIES FOR GIS

The City of Fremont's Geographic Information System (GIS) Division in the Information Technology Services Department designs, develops, and maintains Citywide geographic/tabular data sets and apps.

With this technology and data, the City has a powerful information tool which can be used to spatially display information, such as streets, parcels, addresses, parks, land use, and zoning.

The GIS Division manages the issuance of new addresses, verifies existing ones, and reviews proposed street names.

What is the purpose of having a new street name reviewed?

A proposed street name is reviewed to ensure that the new name assists emergency service agencies (e.g., Police and Fire), public and private agencies/businesses, the United States Postal Service and the general public in the location of a specific dwelling, building, business or property. developer provide a list of potential street names to GIS for review and consideration.
