Healthy Choices School Based Mental Health Counseling
Counseling and consultation services are provided at a few participating K-12 schools throughout the Fremont Unified School District. Counselors collaborate with principals, teachers and parents and bring essential counseling services to youth who need support with family problems, or socialization with peers. For students who need support with school adjustment, family problems, or socialization with peers.
The mental health counseling is provided by mental health trainees/associates who are in field placements as part of their masters or doctoral programs or are post-masters and are working on their hours toward a professional clinical mental health license. All mental health trainees/associates are supervised by Youth and Family Services licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and licensed Psychologists.
Mental health trainees/associates spend two or three days a week at the school and coordinate with school personnel to identify and link students most in need of counseling with services. Students may also self-refer or be referred by their parents. Parental consent is required for students to receive this service.
