California Nursery has significant historical and botanical importance to the City of Fremont. In order to maintain, preserve and enhance the property, the City worked with PGA Design, Inc., to prepare a Master Plan that was approved by City Council on December 12, 2017. Currently, the first phase of the California Nursery Historical Park Master Plan is underway; this phase of the project is essential to set the framework for the future development of the park.
The California Nursery Historical Park Entry Plaza Project will provide a new entry plaza into the park and a destination rose garden with new ADA-accessible pathways, site furnishings and interpretive signage.
The California Nursery Historical Park Interpretive Signage Installation Project entails the installation of various upright and cantilevered interpretive signs that will tell the rich history of the California Nursery Company.
The park expansion project will complete the 20-acre Centerville Community Park and the development of the existing neighborhood surrounding the park. The existing adopted master plan was developed in 2002. Minor changes to some of these amenities were proposed and a public meeting was held in August to review the modified Master Plan with the community.
The project includes the demolition of the existing restroom/meeting room structure and surrounding concrete, and removal of two eucalyptus trees. Building demolition shall include abatement of and legal disposal of lead, asbestos, and polychlorinated biphenyl’s (PCB’s) from the structure prior to demolition.
The project includes the installation of new PG&E service, installation of underground utilities to the new restroom building, installation of fire sprinklers, foundation subbase preparation for placement the new restroom building; and installation of concrete paving, curb and gutter, and site furnishings.
The project will create a new adult exercise area at the East Meadow area of Central Park, located south of the softball complex, and will be accessible from the dog park parking lot and perimeter lake path. The facility will include rubber safety surfacing, exercise stations, a drink fountain/water refill station, and shade structures. The project will also include a new 12 foot wide concrete pathway that will be constructed from the dog park, along the south and east side of the existing softball complex, and connect to the perimeter path at Lake Elizabeth. These pathway improvements will also provide access to the new Exercise Equipment area.
The project will provide shade over seating areas for sports events at the Synthetic Cricket and Soccer Field in Central Park.
The project entails the installation of an ADA-compliant 10’ wide concrete path that will stretch approximately 2700 linear feet from an existing concrete path in Lake Elizabeth to Stevenson Boulevard along the fence-line parallel to UPRR. This concrete pathway will replace the existing compacted dirt- use trail.
The project will improve and upgrade the existing picnic areas for accessibility and add additional picnic area space for public use at the north side of the Skate Park. The improvements will include concrete pavement and shade structures, and relocated site furnishings. An additional feature of the project will be the installation of a Storage Container with access path to the north side of the Water Park property.
The project will create four new pickleball courts including sports court lighting and a new dog park. The dog park be in a natural setting with existing trees, with bark mulch surfacing, four feet high fencing, and park user and maintenance access gates and entry areas.
